HI STORY’ – It started as a komiks novel by Nerissa Cabral
Then it became a Viva movie topbilled by Sharon Cuneta.
Now it’s a teleserye on ABS-CBN, with Sarah Geronimo leading the star-studded cast.
That in brief is the "history" of "Bituing Walang Ningning," debuting on May 15 as the most star-studded primetime soap ever, combining music and drama.
It tells of the dramatic rise to music stardom of a starstruck fan, Dorina Pineda (Sarah). She idolizes the biggest singing star, Lavinia Arguelles (Angelika de la Cruz). Like a true blue fan, Dorina follows Lavinia everywhere, watching her shows and offering her flowers.
Onstage and in front of the public, Lavinia is at her best behavior. But in private she is vicious, turning off even her staunchest supporters.
•
FAMOUS LINE – In time the fan eclipsed the idol, prompting the latter to utter that famous line in the movie: "You are nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat." In the movie, Cherie Gil as Lavinia confronts Sharon as Dorina with those bitchy lines.
Surely, Angelika de la Cruz as Lavinia will utter the same line to Sarah as Dorina.
•
POETIC JUSTICE – Lavinia’s downfall is poetic justice as she caused the ruin of her very own mentor, singer RosaMia Suarez (Zsa Zsa Padilla), who is now forgotten and eking out a living by singing in bars.
The character of Zsa Zsa was especially created for the ABS-CBN soap, directed by Erick Salud and Jerome C. Pobocan, with Reggie Amigo as headwriter and Vince de Jesus writing the original songs for the show.
•
STAR LINE-UP – This column earlier described "Bituing Walang Ningning" as the most star-studded soap ever. Consider the line-up: Sarah, Angelika, Zsa Zsa, Ai-Ai de las Alas, Ryan Agoncillo, Dominic Ochoa, Mico Palanca, Amy Austria, Tonton Gutierrez, John Prats, Carlo Aquino, Tuesday Vargas, Janus del Prado, Jay Perillo, Carla Humphries, Chris Kayzer, and "Little Big Star" finalist Mica Roi.
At the presscon of "Bituing Walang Ninging" at the Music Museum, Sarah, Angelika, and Zsa Zsa engaged in a singing "duel" which will be incorporated in the teleserye.
•
SOUNDTRACK – Already available in the market is the soundtrack of the soap, topped by Sarah’s "Bituing Walang Ninging" and Zsa’s "Sana’y Maghintay ang Walang Hanggan," and Angelika’s "Miss na Miss Kita."
Sarah has duets with Zsa Zsa ("Nasaan Ka Man") and Angelika ("Dito Ba").
"Dito Ba" was first sung by Kuh Ledesma for the movie "Miss X," starring Vilma Santos.
