Episode 14.1
Rita reminds him that she no longer has a guitar. He says he's got a spare guitar that he can lend her. Rita says her rejoining the band is complicated, and she doubts that Barbara will give her permission. Unknown to Rita, Barbara has come out of her bedroom in time to overhear the last part of their conversation.
Rita changes the subject and offers Jack something to eat. Barbara walks into the living room to ask what they were talking about. When Rita says it's nothing, Barbara asks if Rita wants to get her permission for something. Jack and Rita exchange worried looks. Jack hesitantly explains that he had invited Rita to play with the band again, assuming it was okay with Barbara. Barbara asks which band -- is it Dorina's? Jack says yes, but starts to say that he would understand if Barbara does not agree.
To their surprise, Barbara says she has no reason to not give her permission. She says this is Rita's dream, so she'll consent. Rita is ecstatic and runs to hug her mother. She doesn't notice the satisfied look on Barbara's face.
At band rehearsals, Nico is worried to see Rita and asks how Barbara feels about this. Dorina explains that things have changed. Barbara and Rita are no longer living with Lavinia because they've argued. Zossimo asks if Lavinia didn't even try to stop them from leaving, and that Lavinia is really something else. He says perhaps they can leak this information to the press. Dorina says they shouldn't. Nico agrees and says they don't want to fight dirty the way Larry does. If it does come out in the papers, it won't be leaked by them.
Oscar visits Lavinia and says that news about her rift with Barbara is starting to spread and that he's doing everything he can to keep the entertainment press from publishing an article about it. He says he hopes Nico doesn't find out. Lavinia says there's no problem that money can't solve -- she learned that much from Barbara. She says she can pay whoever needs to be paid to keep quiet.
Oscar says that bit of news should never be allowed to reach the papers, because Lavinia will seem like an ungrateful daughter. She'll be compared to Dorina, who is a wonderful daughter, whose mother and sister now live with her in a beautiful home. Lavinia is surprised that Dorina can afford a beautiful home. Oscar says he's not surprised and tells Lavinia that Dorina is now living in Rosamia's former home. Lavinia tells Oscar that the house belongs to Nico. Oscar says perhaps Nico has sold it. She tells him to check if the house still belongs to Nico.
Zossimo and Nico are at a restaurant chatting and Zossimo says they haven't had a chance to talk about what happened at the gym. Nico says there's nothing to talk about. He confesses that he couldn't stop himself from going after Larry because of the way he's been using people -- including Chris and Jay. He says Larry is even using Lavinia just to damage Dorina's career. Zossimo asks him if he's sure that's the way things are, and that it's not because of Lavinia?
Nico says whatever there is between him and Lavinia is long over. Zossimo says he hopes that's true. He expresses amazement at how much Lavinia has changed with her success. He says it's a good thing Dorina still has her feet planted firmly on the ground despite her success. Nico says Dorina is different, that she's special.
Zossimo asks him if he's falling in love with Dorina. Nico just smiles and calls a waiter over to order a drink for Nico.
Lavinia is at home watching TV and catches one of Dorina's performances on the air. As the camera pans she sees Rita performing on stage as well.
Adora is with Minda consulting with a faith healer. She's not convinced that it's working and insists on leaving, but Minda convinces her to stay a while longer. Minda asks the faith healer if Adora is now healed, but the faith healer says no. The healer tells them to return on Friday because her powers are stronger on Fridays. As Adora tries to leave, the faith healer tells her to not dwell too much on her problem. The healer says that sometimes people get sick because they have a heavy burden, or they have a secret that they're harboring.
Rosamia visits Adora at the restaurant. She says she came just in case Dorina was around. Adora says Dorina is at rehearsals. Rosamia asks if Adora accompanies Dorina to her rehearsals and Adora explains that she used to, but that nowadays Nico and Zossimo take care of Dorina. Rosamia asks Adora if she doesn't miss Dorina because of this arrangement, but she quickly realizes that it's a stupid question -- after all, Dorina and Adora see each other in the evenings when Dorina comes home.
Adora asks Rosamia if she misses Dorina. Rosamia says yes. And she hopes Adora doesn't mind but she really does miss Dorina because they haven't had a chance to really spend a lot of time together. Adora suggests that Rosamia go visit their rehearsals. She offers to have Emilio accompany Rosamia, but Rosamia quickly turns her down. Adora belatedly remembers that Emilio and Rosamia are estranged. She says Emilio told her about the situation, but assures Rosamia that she will not tell anyone else.
Rosamia says it's okay, that it's all in the past. Adora asks if Emilio is really in her past only, because Emilio still loves her. Rosamia says it's hard because she remembers how Emilio lost their daughter. She can't quite forgive him. Adora is quiet.
As they leave the studio, Jack compliments Rita on how quickly she learned the piece that they played. She says they've already played it before at the mall, and that their review the night before really helped. Half-kidding, he asks if she'd like them to review it again tonight. She laughs.
As they walk along the studio corridor, they suddenly come face to face with Lavinia, who rushes at Rita and slaps her soundly. She accuses Rita of not caring about her feelings, and about what people may say about their family. Crying, Rita tries to explain that she didn't join the band to hurt Lavinia.
Lavinia asks her why she did join the band. Is it for money? Angrily, Lavinia pulls out a wad of cash from her purse and throws it at Rita's face. She says if they need money, they should ask for money from her. She says she's used to supporting Rita and Barbara anyway. Lavinia walks off in anger leaving Rita crying as Jack stands behind her, not sure what to do.
In school, Kylie congratulates Oman for getting the highest grades. He thanks her and says that her own grades are high. He says her dad is sure to be pleased. Kylie agrees and says she hopes it will help make up for everything she did before. Curious, Oman asks her what it was that she had done.
Kylie explains that she rebelled against her father during high school because she had a boyfriend when she was still too young to have one. So she was always sneaking out and cutting classes to meet with her boyfriend, and as a result, she got kicked out of school.
Oman remarks that her dad must have been furious. She says yes, but says her dad was right, and that she wasted a lot of opportunities. So now she's trying to make up for it.
Oman asks what happened to her boyfriend. Kylie says he's still around, but that she's told him they have to cool things off for now. She confesses that while she really loves her boyfriend, she's not yet ready to juggle her studies and a relationship right now.
Oman asks her to explain what it means when a girl says she's not yet ready. Kylie says it can mean different things. Some girls are really not ready, so you just need to give them time. Others really are not interested in the guy, and they just say that so the guy doesn't get hurt.
When Oman looks worried, Kylie asks him what's wrong. He says he's just asking. She immediately asks if he's courting someone. Oman says no. Kylie asks him if it's Dorina. Oman denies it. Kylie starts teasing him about Dorina and Oman laughingly tells her to be quiet.
Rita and Barbara are at home, and Barbara is angry that Lavinia dared to say she was supporting them before. Rita tries to placate her and says that Lavinia was merely angry. She tries to suggest that they patch things up with Lavinia. Barbara angrily says no, especially after the way Lavinia has embarrassed them in public. Barbara says Lavinia had better be prepared for her.
At her home, Lavinia hands Oscar an envelope with cash, saying that she had an encounter with Rita in public earlier. Oscar laughs and says she seems to be having a lot of clashes lately, but that he doesn't mind since he's making money. Lavinia tells him to guarantee that no negative write-up will come out.
Oscar says he'll take care of it. He also tells her that it's true that Nico owns the house where Dorina lives. He says it will be in the papers by tomorrow. Lavinia is pleased, because tomorrow is the lunch party of the Manila Press Club. She asks if Nico will be attending, and Oscar says yes, because he invited Nico. He's looking forward to the feeding frenzy tomorrow once it becomes public knowledge that Nico is the one who owns the house. Lavinia is pleased.
At the Pineda home, Dorina and Bencho are asleep in bed when Adora comes in. She pulls off Dorina's shoes and tucks her into bed as she hums a lullaby. It is a tender moment and Adora cannot help but cry as she remembers the earlier days when Dorina was much younger, especially the time when she almost gave Dorina up at the orphanage.
The next day, the tabloid headlines announce that Nico and Dorina are living together. As Nico reads the article, Zossimo tells him that the write-up implies they're having an affair. Nico says they should just ignore it. Zossimo asks if he still plans to attend the luncheon at the Manila Press Club. Nico doesn't answer.
At the press club, reporters are reading the tabloids and one of them asks Oscar if he wrote the article. Oscar replies by saying -- Nico really is the owner of the house, and he implies that there's something going on between Nico and Dorina. He says Dorina's mother also lives there, but that she probably turns a blind eye to the situation because she gets to live in a mansion.
At the next table, Lavinia and Larry are listening to Oscar's defamatory statements, smiling. Lavinia says she's sure Nico will be too embarrassed to show up, and that he'll now be staying away from Dorina.
Just then, the door opens and Nico stands at the doorway. The press are excited to see him. He holds the door open and Dorina enters as well. Nico tells Dorina that this is just a party and that she can just relax, she's not expected to sing.
Reporters start crowding around them and one asks Dorina if it's true that she and Nico are now a couple. The questions come in rapid-fire while Dorina is standing there stunned by what she's hearing. Nico steps in and tells the reporters that he thought this was a party. He encourages the reporters to relax for now.
The reporters start grumbling, so Nico finally says that they don't talk about their personal lives. He asks to be excused and starts escorting Dorina to a table. Lavinia and Larry are not pleased. Lavinia asks Larry what Nico is up to, especially since he didn't even deny the rumours. Larry says maybe there's really nothing to deny -- an answer that Lavinia is not pleased to hear. She stands up and walks out of the event.
As Lavinia exits the venue, Barbara walks up to her and shocks her by throwing money in her face. Barbara says she doesn't need Lavinia's money, especially since she raised Lavinia on her own. She announces that she is now cutting off her relationship with Lavinia.
Lavinia tells bystanders to forgive the "mess" and that she's leaving the money there as her tip and leaves. As people start gathering the money, Barbara stops them and picks up the money on the floor herself.
At the church, Adora is praying. She tells God that she's carrying such a heavy burden, and that she has committed such a grave offense against Rosamia. She says she will end this now and finally reveal the truth to Rosamia.
