Episode 13.4

Zossimo and Nico are deep in discussion in Nico's office when Lavinia walks in and asks to talk to Nico alone. Nico agrees, but he doesn't look too happy. After Zossimo leaves, Lavinia says she came because their discussion was interrupted the other day. She says she'd rather be with him at Zoni rather than return to Larry.

Nico turns his back to her and tells her that Zoni already has a Dorina Pineda. There's no need for another singer. Lavinia tells him he's making a big mistake. Nico turns to face her and says he doesn't think so, because Lavinia is too spoiled, and she's a big headache.

Lavinia is insulted. She says she came to him as a friend in need, and he treats her like garbage. Nico says that's exactly what she did to Dorina, that Dorina went to see her and tried to make amends, but Lavinia only mistreated her. Nico tells her that she'll never change and that he was a fool to think she would. He tells her she can't deceive him anymore.

Lavinia angrily tells him to remember this day because this is the day he lost her completely. This was his last chance to get her back, but he wasted the opportunity. He will regret this day because he will never have her. Nico watches her as she walks out.

Lavinia arrives at her home to find Larry waiting for her in the foyer. When she ignores him, he rushes to her side and asks to patch things up with her. She asks him if he will give her what she wants. Larry says yes, that her concert will now be on the same date as Dorina's. Lavinia smiles, pleased. Hesitantly, Larry asks if their deal is still in place, and Lavinia says yes, once Dorina's career is over she will marry him.

The next day, Larry and Lavinia are sitting in her garden talking. Larry hands Lavinia a CD with some of the song selections for her concert. He says that an orchestra has been arranged for her rehearsal the next day. Lavinia notices that Larry is becoming affected by her presence and she moves to sit next to him and places her hand on his leg. She says she'd like a chance to relax before her schedule becomes hectic with the concert, and Larry agrees.

She asks him to remove his coat, saying he looks uncomfortable. She smiles at him sweetly and says he's such a good man, unlike Nico, who is intent on getting what he wants even if she doesn't want it. Larry becomes concerned and asks if something has happened. Lavinia lies and tells him that when Nico had heard that she had resigned, he had come to her house to try pirate her for Zoni Records. And that she later learned that Nico didn't actually want her as a singer, but as a girlfriend.

Larry asks if Nico still has feelings for her. Lavinia assures him that she doesn't want Nico anymore, and that she told Nico this. But that Nico suddenly kissed her, and that she had to stop him from doing more than that. Larry is angry, and Lavinia calms him down by saying she doesn't want Nico since she has Larry.

She tells him it's only a matter of time before he destroys Dorina's career, and when that happens she's all his. As Larry hugs her, Lavinia smiles with satisfaction.

That night, Dorina and Adora are sitting in bed together in Dorina's bedroom. Bencho is next to Dorina asleep. Adora advises Dorina not to regret what happened with Lavinia. She says at least Dorina knows she did everything she could to patch things up with Lavinia. At least she can rest and sleep easy.

Dorina invites her to crawl into bed with her and Bencho, but Adora says that Bencho is now much bigger and the bed is too small. She also says it's best that her two daughters get used to sleeping on their own. When Dorina asks why, Adora says there will be times when she has shows out of town or out of the country, so it's better that she gets used to it. Also, Adora says she might have picked up a virus while she was at the hospital. So it's better this way.

Dorina just nods and they kiss each other good night. Just before Adora leaves the bedroom, Dorina says she'll miss Adora, prompting Adora to say she'll miss Dorina too. Adora leaves the bedroom, and starts sobbing quietly as she closes Dorina's bedroom door.

The next day, Adora asks Dorina to sample a dish she's cooking in the kitchen. Dorina tastes it then says it lacks seasoning. Adora tells her they will now add soy sauce, but they'll be careful of the amount to add since it's hard to fix a dish once too much soy sauce has been added. Adora also says that she'll teach Dorina another dish tomorrow, as well as teach her how to iron.

Dorina is puzzled and asks why Adora is suddenly teaching her all this. Adora says Rosamia is giving her voice lessons, so Adora would like to teach her life lessons. Plus, once Dorina has a family of her own, Adora won't be around anymore.

Dorina assures her that even though she has her own family, she'll want Adora to live with them. Adora says there's a chance Dorina will be madly in love with a guy that Adora does not like. What then?

Dorina assures her she won't choose a man that Adora doesn't get along with. Besides, she says they won't leave each other no matter what. Adora is touched, but when Dorina is distracted, her face reveals the pain she feels.

Dorina is at Rosamia's, wrapping up her voice lessons. She says she might not be able to come on Friday, because she'd like to spend time with Adora, maybe go to church and just go out together. Rosamia asks if Adora has a problem, and Dorina says she just noticed that something has changed. She says there are times that Adora avoids her, and other times Adora hugs her so tightly. Rosamia says perhaps Adora just needs some tender loving care since she has just recovered from her illness. Dorina says it's possible. She also says that Adora's birthday will be next month. She asks Rosamia for advice about what to do for her birthday.

Rosamia says it might be corny, but she personally would like a children's party. Because whoever attends it, they'll be sure to enjoy themselves. Even though the parlor games are a bit shallow, everyone still has fun.

They bid each other goodbye. Rosamia says she needs to attend to something in the kitchen and asks Dorina to see herself out. Before Dorina leaves, Emilio sneaks up the stairs and leaves a gift on one of the seats for Rosamia.

Once they're outside, Dorina asks Emilio why he left a gift for Rosamia. She is worried that Rosamia will get angry. Emilio says he thinks she'll accept the gift, since it's Rosamia's birthday tomorrow. Dorina is surprised and says he should have told her earlier.

Rosamia sees the gift, but she tosses it back to the seat without opening it.

Nico visits the band while they're at rehearsals, and Gary tells him that they've gone through all the songs and they just need to polish their performance. Nico is pleased, then tells them that he doesn't want to give them pressure, but that they really need to make their performance perfect, because Lavinia has moved her concert date to the same day as their own concert.

Dorina is worried, and asks why Lavinia would do that. Nico says it's to intimidate them, and to divide the audience. He says this is the real test -- they'll now see just who the fans will flock to. He tells Dorina that this concert can make or break her. Worried, she asks what will happen if no one attends their concert. Nico assures her that won't happen because he and Zossimo are working full blast on promoting the concert. And they'll also keep an eye on Larry, because they know he plays dirty. He says he wouldn't be surprised if Larry buys his audience.

Back at Rosamia's house, she is unable to resist and finally opens the gift that Emilio left behind. Inside, she finds a photo frame with a portrait of herself and baby Emilia Rose. She immediately hugs the frame tightly to her chest, smiling.

Dorina asks Adora why she's not attending Rosamia's birthday party, especially since it's their idol. Adora says she feels guilty about leaving Minda alone, because her friend has been minding the restaurant alone while Adora was sick and in the hospital.

Just then, Oman walks in and Dorina invites him to join the party. Oman says he can't because he's meeting up with Kylie. When he asks Dorina if he's mentioned Kylie, she curtly says yes. Smiling, Oman says Kylie has agreed to lend him a text book on accounting, which is too expensive for him to buy.

When Oman walks into the back of the restaurant to get some food, Dorina is upset and asks Adora why Oman is always mentioning Kylie. Adora says she's noticed that as well, and she wonders if Oman only invented Kylie to make Dorina jealous.

Just then, Oman returns to say his goodbyes, and Dorina asks him to attend Rosamia's party and to bring Kylie with him. Oman says he may not get there in time since they still have to study. Not willing to give up, Dorina says he can always join them at her gig later that day, and he can bring Kylie along. He says Kylie may not be able to come along but he'll try.

Oscar meets with Lavinia at a restaurant, and tells her that Barbara has found a new talent named Snow White, who's the niece of Pepita Snow. Lavinia says she doesn't care about Barbara. She wants to know if he has found out anything new about Dorina. Oscar says he learned that Dorina's driver spent 18 years in Muntinlupa, that he's a criminal. Lavinia doesn't care, and wants to know only about Dorina. She says the driver is immaterial because he has nothing to do with Dorina. Lavinia reminds Oscar that all she wants is a scandal related to Dorina. And until he finds something, she tells him not to bother seeing her.

Rosamia walks into the bar she usually sings at and is wonderfully surprised when a crowd of people have gathered with a Jollibee mascot to greet her Happy Birthday. Dorina walks forward and greets her. Rosamia asks her what this is all about and Dorina reminds her that she once said she enjoyed children's parties. Nico, Gary, Bencho, and Zossimo come forward to greet her.

Later at the party, Dorina dedicates a song to her idol and mentor, Rosamia, and greets her happy birthday. She then starts to sing Nasaan Ka Man. In the middle of the song, she hands the microphone to Rosamia who, although surprised, gamely starts singing the next stanza. By the time they reach the chorus, the two of them are singing the song together in a lovely and moving duet.

As the rest of the song plays, we see a happy montage of more scenes from the party, including a moment where Emilio and Rosamia cross paths without her becoming angry. Unknown to all of them, Adora is standing outside the party, looking sad and unwilling to join them.

As the party winds down, Nico and Zossimo make their goodbyes, saying that they still have preparatory work to do for Dorina's concert. Nico says he really enjoyed the party, especially the part where Rosamia and Dorina sang together. He tells Rosamia that if she should ever want to return to recording, he hopes she'll call Zoni Records. Rosamia thanks him.

When Zossimo comes to say goodbye, she says she hopes he enjoyed himself. He says of course he did, and that he's pleased to see her happy once again. They hug each other warmly, then Zossimo leaves.

Dorina and the band make their goodbyes also, since they have a gig to go to. Rosamia says it's a shame that Adora wasn't able to join them. Dorina agrees, saying that she's sure that Adora would have enjoyed herself.

Dorina notices the mess that they've made of the place and says they'll clean up before they go. Rosamia stops her, saying she'll take care of it. When Dorina insists, Emilio steps in and says that he'll help clean up. With a meaningful look on his face, he reminds Dorina that she was going to ride with Gary to their gig. Dorina picks up on his signal and agrees. She bids Rosamia goodbye again and they all leave.

Rosamia and Emilio are left alone to clean up the mess. She takes the opportunity to thank him for his gift, saying that she liked it. Emilio says that his friend Bombee had drawn the portrait. She says it's such a good likeness of Emilia Rose.

Emilio steps closer to her and it looks like he wants to have a heart-to-heart talk. But Rosamia stops him and says he shouldn't try to force the issue, that things will come naturally when the time is right. She moves away, and Emilio does not follow.
