Episode 17.2

Oscar makes his rounds visiting other reporters, who ask him about the sources of his scoops. He evades the question by saying they should await his next scoop. He makes his way to one lady in particular, and remarks to her that she's not making any space in her section for his articles.

She tells him there's no space for his articles. He offers her money, saying this should make some space appear. She takes the money only to throw it back at him. She angrily tells him that it's reporters like him who make other reporters like her look bad. She tells him to get out and threatens to call security should he return.

Adora is now lying in bed in her own bedroom in the Pineda home with her two daughters and Minda fussing over her and asking if she's alright. Adora assures them that she's well. When Bencho and Minda leave the room for a moment, Adora asks Dorina if she's still angry. Dorina assures her that she's not, before quickly making up an excuse to leave the room before Adora can say more.

In the garden, Gary asks Dorina if she's still unhappy with her Adora. Dorina says she doesn't understand why Emilio and Adora felt the need to conceal the truth from her. When Gary asks about Rosamia, she says she has not talked to Rosamia again, but says with a trace of defiance that it's no big deal if Rosamia does not consider her as a daughter, because Adora is still there and she considers Adora as her mother.

Gary says he doesn't know how he can cheer her up. He thinks for a moment then invites her to go with him to a place that he goes whenever he feels down. Dorina says she doesn't feel like leaving the house and facing the public just yet.

In Adora's bedroom, Minda gives her a drink of water and reminds Adora that she needs to return to the hospital. Adora says she can't leave Dorina. Minda says if she doesn't return to the hospital, she will end up leaving Dorina forever. Adora finally relents and agrees to return to the hospital for treatments, but she refuses to be confined. She says she will return home every night because she is needed here.

Gary insists that it will not help matters if Dorina stays at home, because she will just end up brooding over the situation. He says she should go with him, after all, it's his birthday. Surprised, Dorina asks him if it's really his birthday. Gary confesses that it's not, but that he said it to hopefully convince her to go with him. Dorina laughs and finally agrees.

Gary enters a pediatric hospital ward and greets the patients and nurses there, asking if they've missed him. He tells the kids that he'd like to introduce his friend, Ate Happy! Dorina enters, dressed up and almost unrecognizable in a clown costume. Gary and Dorina spend time entertaining the kids... Gary with his dance moves, Ate Happy with her singing.

After saying their goodbyes to the children, Gary asks Dorina (still in her clown costume) if she enjoyed herself. Dorina says yes. Just then, they bump into a doctor who greets Gary and thanks "Ate Happy" for entertaining the kids. The doctor then turns to Gary and remarks that he hasn't been back for a check-up in a while. Gary assures the doctor that he'll come by soon. The doctor makes his goodbyes and leaves.

Dorina quickly asks Gary about the check-up that the doctor mentioned. Gary explains that he gets a check-up every six months. He hesitates a moment before revealing that he had leukemia when he was younger. He says he's one of the luckier ones, because he had a bone marrow transplant and he's been okay since then.

As Dorina continues to look at him in surprise, he reveals that he knows how depressing it can be to be a child sick in the hospital, which is why he makes an effort to come and entertain the kids. Dorina says she had no idea that he was once so ill, since he's always active and full of life now. Gary says that's why he promised himself he won't waste whatever time he has. If there's something that needs to be done, he'll do it right away -- which explains why he can sometimes be overly aggressive.

The nurses bid Gary goodbye as he and Dorina (now in street clothes) walk down the hospital corridor. Dorina is wearing dark glasses to be less recognizable. The nurses ask Gary to bring Ate Happy back next month. Hearing this, Dorina tells Gary that she'll be sure to come back with him. She says she really enjoyed herself, and since the kids seemed to have fun, that made her own enjoyment more complete.

They are still chatting when Dorina notices Adora in a wheelchair with Minda entering one of the nearby hospital elevators. She rushes to the elevator but the doors close before she can get there. Gary asks her if she's sure she saw Adora, and she insists that she's sure.

Dorina starts searching the hospital corridors, with Gary trailing after her. Just then, Minda leaves one of the hospital rooms and encounters Dorina in the hallway. Dorina demands to know where Adora is, saying she saw Adora with Minda earlier Minda tries to come up with reasons why Dorina should leave, but Dorina is determined to know the truth.

Left with no choice, Minda allows Dorina to enter the hospital room. Dorina is shocked to see Adora lying in the hospital bed. Adora is just as surprised to see Dorina standing there.

Slowly, Dorina enters the room until she is at Adora's bedside. She sees the IV drip connected to Adora's arm and asks Adora if she's ill. Adora hesitates. Dorina demands answers from Minda, but Minda keeps quiet, waiting for Adora to be the one to tell Dorina.

Finally, Adora tells Dorina that she has lymphoma, that she has cancer. Dorina is horrified by the news, and falls to her knees beside the bed and starts to cry as she reaches for her mother's hand. Adora tries to assure her that everything's okay and that there's no need for Dorina to cry, after all she's not yet dead. Adora asks Dorina if she has ever seen her mother defeated in a fight, trying to cheer her up. Dorina forces a smiles and says no.

Dorina sits on the bed and hugs her mother tightly. Adora wipes away her tears and hugs her back.

Later in the hallway, the doctor tells Dorina and Gary that when Adora was first diagnosed, her cancer was already in Stage 3. But they are positive and optimistic because of her response to the chemotherapy. When Dorina asks about her mother's prognosis, the doctor says that with medical advances, research, and the help of God, there is always hope.

Dorina thanks the doctor and asks her to do everything she can to help Adora, because she will never tire of asking for a miracle from God.

Rita rushes into Barbara's room, where Barbara is feeding herself from a bed tray. She tells Barbara that Lavinia will be appearing on TV to promote her new movie. Rita turns on the TV just as Lavinia appears on screen, singing.

Barbara remarks with some surprise that Lavinia has a beautiful voice. Rita smiles as she continues to watch her sister and remarks that Lavinia's had a beautiful voice for quite some time.

Barbara turns her attention to Rita and watches as her daughter continues to admire Lavinia's performance. Quietly, she says -- I've been so busy looking upwards that I never noticed what was beside me, the beauty that's right in front of my face.

Barbara unsteadily raises a hand to touch Rita's cheek. Rita is surprised and asks if her mother is talking about her. Barbara says yes. She says she's always devoted all her energy, her care, and her attention to Lavinia, and that she's always ignored Rita, even criticized her. And now, Rita is the one taking care of her.

Tears roll down Rita's face as she assures her mother that she's okay with whatever was in the past. Barbara's own tears roll down her cheeks as she says -- the one person that I've always ignored is the one who's here taking care of me.

Rita brushes back Barbara's hair and in a voice choked by emotion, she says to Barbara that she's doing this because she loves her mother dearly.

Barbara says she has never said it before, but she too, loves Rita deeply. Rita is touched and cries happy tears. She hugs her mother tightly as Barbara hugs her back.

Adora awakens from a nap in the hospital to find Dorina sitting in a chair keeping watch over her. She asks Dorina to go home, but Dorina refuses to leave Adora in the hospital. In a tight, angry voice, she says she now knows that Adora never went to Boracay on vacation.

Adora asks for forgiveness, saying she just didn't want Dorina to worry because she loves Dorina so much. Frustrated, Dorina asks her why they all equate hiding the truth with love. Adora admits that it was a mistake, and asks Dorina how she can make it up to her.

Dorina says she can make up for it by getting well. Adora assures her, promises her that she will get well. Dorina hugs Adora tightly.

Later, Dorina steps out of the hospital room for a moment. As she stands outside the closed door, memories of her childhood come to mind... all the moments growing up with Adora. As she stands there crying, Gary approaches her in the corridor and hugs her, giving her a shoulder to cry on.
