Episode 12.3

Barbara is in the living room impatiently waiting for Lavinia when Rita comes down the stairs. She learns from Rita that Lavinia has already left for her guesting -- without Barbara. Furious, Barbara leaves for the studio.

Lavinia enters a dressing room only to find Dorina already inside. She reminds the staffer that she didn't want to share her dressing room with anyone else. The staffer apologizes, saying there was a mix-up in the room assignments. She offers to find another room for Lavinia. Lavinia refuses, saying she wants this particular room. She orders the staffer to have Dorina leave, otherwise she will walk out of their show.

The staffer is unable to ask Dorina to leave, so Lavinia starts to leave the room. Dorina volunteers to leave so Lavinia will stay.

Barbara confronts Libby at LaCalma and learns that Lavinia has asked one of their road managers to accompany her to the studio. She says she thought Barbara knew about this arrangement. Still angry, Barbara asks for all the checks, saying Lavinia will toe the line once she starts withholding the money. Libby says Lavinia has already received the checks. Barbara says Lavinia can't encash those, since the checks are in Barbara's name. Libby informs her that Lavinia has had the checks made payable to her.

Now furious, Barbara demands to see Larry. She interrupts a meeting that he is holding to accuse him of conniving with Lavinia. She asks why the checks are now being issued to Lavinia. Larry tells her she may be Lavinia's manager but since there is no actual contract between her and Lavinia, and since Lavinia is the one who has a contract with LaCalma, plus Lavinia is the one who is actually bringing in the money, he honored Lavinia's wishes. He suggests that she take up her issues with Lavinia.

Dorina arrives on the set with the rest of the band to find Lavinia already being interviewed. A staffer tells her that Lavinia had requested that her segment come first, because she has to leave to go elsewhere. Dorina tells her it's no problem.

In her interview, Lavinia is asked how she feels now that she and Dorina are competitors. She says she's happy for Dorina. The host then asks if this means that she and Dorina are still friends. Lavinia, with false sincerity, says she would like to be friends with Dorina, but she has heard from PAs that fame has gotten to Dorina's head, that her attitude has changed. She's no longer as kind and as humble as she used to be. Lavinia says she can't blame Dorina, because it's only natural that this would happen when someone is so successful.

The host says that Dorina is here on the set, and they can ask her for her side of the story. As someone holds a microphone up to Dorina, the host asks her if it's true that her ego is getting to be too big. As Lavinia sits there smirking, Dorina is too upset and unable to answer. With tears in her eyes, she leaves without answering. Gary, Jay, and Chris follow her.

Lavinia pretends to be worried and says that it looks like Dorina was insulted by the question. She says she didn't mean to cause any trouble, and that she was only repeating what other people have told her.

Barbara collects Lavinia's checks only to find that they're all made out to her daughter's name. The clerk tells her that those were the orders "from upstairs."

In the hallway, Lavinia is pleased because she felt that Dorina looked stupid earlier. She tells her road manager that Dorina picked the wrong person to challenge.

Lavinia opens the door to her dressing room to find Barbara there waiting for her. Barbara demands to know why all the checks are now being issued to Lavinia. Lavinia looks at the road manager, who quickly leaves the room and shuts the door behind her.

Now alone, Lavinia tells Barbara it's only right that the checks be made out to her since she's the one who's working. She's the one facing the audience, the press, the camera. It's only right that she gets all the money.

Barbara tries to slap Lavinia, but Lavinia catches her wrist in mid-air. Lavinia tells Barbara that her hand is no longer allowed to touch Lavinia. Otherwise there will be hell to pay.

Barbara says Lavinia has got some nerve fighting her own mother, especially since Barbara is always helping her. Lavinia scornfully laughs at the notion of Barbara helping her. She says -- I almost forgot. You ARE helping me... helping me spend my money! But not anymore. Because from now on I will run my own life and my own career.

Barbara charges towards Lavinia with the intent of hitting her, but the dressing room door opens just then and someone comes in with a check for Lavinia. Lavinia signs for the check. When the staffer leaves, Lavinia is pleased and waves the check in the air. She tells Barbara not to worry, she'll still give her mother a salary -- assuming she deserves it.

Barbara says Lavinia should be thankful she can't do anything because they're still in a public place. But once they are alone, no one will be able to stop Barbara.

Lavinia warns Barbara that if she tries to hurt Lavinia at all, she will not receive a single cent. As tears stream down Barbara's face, Lavinia turns to leave. Lavinia says Barbara should take a cab home because Lavinia still needs the car. Barbara can only scream in frustration after Lavinia leaves.

Back at the D'Adorables restaurant, Adora is upset to hear about Lavinia's latest attack. Dorina is quiet. She gets up to get some air outside. Emilio and Adora are worried as they watch her go.

A distraught Barbara enters her bedroom crying inconsolably. Rita comes in after her and asks her what's wrong. Barbara says that Lavinia has changed so much. Bitterly, she says she never thought her own daughter would turn against her. Rita tries to comfort her but Barbara continues to sob.

Dorina knocks on Oman's dorm room, hoping to talk to him. One of Oman's roommates answers the door. She learns that Oman has left and that no one knows where he's going.

When Lavinia finally gets home, Rita asks Lavinia what she has done to upset Barbara so badly. Lavinia tells her she doesn't have time to talk about it right now. Rita angrily asks her -- even though there's only three of us left in this family, will we still be turning our backs on each other? Lavinia reminds Rita what kind of person Barbara is, and the way she has treated them. Lavinia says she has only put Barbara in her place.

Rita reminds Lavinia that Barbara is still their mother, no matter what she has done. Lavinia reminds Rita that she's the one who is earning the money in this household, so Rita has no right to question her behavior. She tells Rita to get out of her face if she doesn't want to get hurt. Rita glares at her but she leaves.

Oman visits Nico at his office. Nico asks him if something has happened to Dorina. Oman says no, that he came because he would like to talk to Nico about Dorina. Nico asks him what he'd like to know. Oman asks him point-blank if Nico loves Dorina.

Nico is surprised but he eventually answers that he does love Dorina, but that the better term is malasakit... he says he views Dorina not just as a talent, but as a sister.

Emilio finds Dorina sitting alone outside. She hugs him and starts crying. When he sits down beside her, she asks him why this is happening. She says she tries to be a good person. She tries not to hurt anyone. She doesn't understand why this should happen.

Emilio sighs and tells her that they'll have many more challenges to face, and that there's nothing they can do to stop those challenges from coming. He says the only thing that she can control is how she will face those challenges. Because her actions and her words are what will carry her forward to the next stage in her life. He says that's why he's so proud of her, because she didn't descend to Lavinia's level. He tells her they should leave Lavinia in God's hands.

Nico asks Oman if he loves Dorina. Oman admits that he loves Dorina, but that Dorina doesn't want him, because Oman isn't like Nico. Nico is puzzled and asks what he has to do with all this. Oman says Nico has already achieved much in his life. He's rich.

He then asks where Nico studied. Nico answers Wharton University. Oman doesn't recognize the name and asks if it's somewhere near Mendiola. Still straightfaced, Nico says no, it's in America. Oman goes on to ask Nico what course he took. Nico answers Business Management.

Nico then tells Oman he thought they were there to talk about Dorina. Oman doesn't respond to Nico's statement. He only says that he's leaving, before taking off. Nico can only shake his head as he returns to his seat.

Dorina thanks Emilio for making her feel better. Emilio assures her that he'll always be there for her whenever she has problems, that he'd do anything for her, even risk his own life. They hug. Dorina is comforted, but Emilio's face reveals the pain he feels for his daughter.

Jack and Rita are finally seeing each other again, now that Rita is allowed to go back to school. She tells him she's glad also, especially since Barbara and Lavinia are constantly fighting. She says that tensions at home are now so bad that she'd rather not go home sometimes.

Jack encourages not to give up, especially since she's the only one who can act as a bridge between Lavinia and Barbara.

Lavinia arrives at Larry's office and informs him that Barbara now knows Lavinia will not be consulting her anymore. Larry says he's surprised that Barbara accepted this change. Lavinia says it's not like Barbara has any choice.

He then asks her if she already has a date for the awards night tomorrow. She says no, and that Larry can pick her up at 6pm. Larry agrees.

Lavinia then tells Larry that she needs to win. Larry says it's a sure thing, and that if he needs to buy the votes of the committee members, he'll do it. Especially since Lavinia and Dorina are nominated in the same category, there's no way he will allow Dorina win over her... there's no way he will let Zoni win over LaCalma.

Lavinia smiles at him sweetly and says she knows she can count on him.
