Episode 18.1

Oman leaves his dorm the next morning and finds Gary waiting for him outside.

Rosamia is at the recruitment agency. The agent tells her she's found a job in Brunei for Rosamia. It's a two year contract. Rosamia says she will accept it and even asks the agent to rush the processing because she is eager to leave.

Outside Oman's dorm, Gary breaks the news of his impending departure to Oman. Oman asks Gary if he's really leaving. Gary says yes, and that he's not changing his mind. He says he has no future here and he would only be fooling himself if he stayed. He needs to move on. He tells Oman to take care of Dorina.

Oman scoffs at the notion and says Nico and Zossimo are there to take care of Dorina; she doesn't need him. Gary smiles and says Dorina needs him... she needs a true friend. Gary tells Oman not to disappoint her. As Gary leaves, Oman watches him drive away.

Dorina is looking out the window at the Pineda home when Emilio walks up to her. He tells her he has no news about Rosamia, but assures her that he will go to Makati later and visit all the bars. Dejected, Dorina says even if Emilio were to find Rosamia, she's sure to leave them anyway... in the same way Oman and Gary have left. They all leave her in the end.

Emilio assures her that it's not true... after all, he's there and he won't leave her. Dorina hugs him.

Edith (the reporter) and Zossimo are talking at a restaurant. He tells her they've got shows lined up for Dorina, including a major concert. She says that's good because Dorina has been lying low lately, and while Dorina lies low, Lavinia's popularity is picking up once again.

Larry walks in just then and Edith invites Larry to join them at the table while Larry's companion hasn't arrived yet.

The entire band assembles to say goodbye to Gary, Jay, and Chris. They load their belongings into cabs. Dorina hugs Gary goodbye. Oman is there as well. Rita and Jack wave their goodbyes as the cab pulls away with Gary, Jay, and Chris.

Rita and Jack leave Dorina and Oman together to talk. Awkwardly, Oman asks what Dorina plans to do next. Dorina says she's going to visit Adora at the hospital. Oman offers to go with her, but she turns him down and says Adora doesn't like visitors to see her while she's sick. Oman offers to accompany her on other events, but Dorina gives him an out by saying she'll handle things on her own. Besides, Kylie might get jealous. Oman forces a smile as Dorina walks away. But Gary's parting words -- about Dorina needing a true friend -- echo in his head.

As Larry takes an empty seat at the table, Edith says she's lucky to have the two greats of the music industry at the table. She tells Larry that Dorina will soon be having a concert. She asks him pointedly if Lavinia will have a concert of her own soon. Larry quickly says yes, and that it will be Lavinia's biggest concert yet.

Edith asks the two men if they've noticed how the careers of the two stars have been see-sawing... while one is at the bottom, the other is on top... and vice versa. Larry remarks that fortune changes quickly for everybody. Edith says that may be the case, but for the first time ever, the standing of the two stars are practically at the same level right now.

Neither men deny her statement. Edith asks them if they're interested in a hosting a big event -- Dorina and Lavinia in one concert! When Larry and Zossimo remain silent with shock on their faces, Edith assures them that she's not kidding. She says a joint concert will be a real battle. A super show! And finally it will answer the question everyone's asking -- just who is the bigger and better star?

Zossimo rises to the challenge and says he thinks it's about time they have such a concert. Larry too agrees. He says it's about time people know that Lavinia is the one and only sensational star. Zossimo barely hides his reaction to that statement.

Lavinia continues to perform in mall shows, with Larry and Libby watching from the audience as the crowd roars their approval. Lavinia is thrilled by the audience reaction.

Emilio continues to search for Rosamia. He's now in Makati, and asks a lady passing by if Rosamia performs at club she just left. She says no, that they have a lot of Rosamia impersonators, but they've never had Rosamia herself. She tells him, though, that she once saw someone who looked like Rosamia walking into the next building. She says there's an employment agency there, so perhaps that's where Rosamia went. Emilio climbs up the stairs and sees a large tarpauline sign recruiting workers, including singers, for overseas jobs. He realizes now what Rosamia must be planning.

At the hospital, Adora arrives for her chemo treatment. Other chemo patients greet her when she arrives at the waiting area, and say they were wondering where she was since she was late. Adora says it took longer than usual to arrive at the hospital because her daughter keeps fussing over her. She says her daughter will be in shortly.

Emilio walks into the recruitment agency, and he asks the agent (and it is Rosamia's agent!) if Rosamia is her client. The agent is quick to deny knowing the real Rosamia. Emilio decides to leaves her his phone number and implores her to call him in case Rosamia walks into her agency. The agent is nervous, and she does her best to rush him out of the office without raising his suspicions. Emilio thanks her and leaves.

Dorina arrives at the hospital waiting area and joins Adora. Adora introduces Dorina to her fellow patients. Dorina asks them if they're at the hospital for chemo as well. They say yes. She learns that they sometimes have trouble raising the funds to pay for their chemo. Touched by their plight, Dorina asks if there's any way she can help. They immediately ask her to sing a song for them. Dorina smiles and says she would gladly sing all day.

Larry escorts Lavinia home after her mall show. She is happy about the crowd reaction, and their standing ovation. Larry tells her it was no ordinary standing ovation. They applauded her performance for five straight minutes! Larry tells her he's so happy with the way her career is going. Lavinia says it's all because of him. Larry bids her goodnight, telling her he loves her before he kisses her on the cheek. Lavinia is happy and enters her home after smiling at him sweetly.

Lavinia enters her empty, dark house and looks around. Tears fill her eyes as she realizes that she has no one with which to share her happy news.

Dorina stays at Adora's side as she continues to receive treatments at the hospital.

Lavinia sits alone in her silent foyer, drinking a glass of red wine as she stares at a family photo from happier times of herself with Rita and Barbara, She cries as she finishes off the glass.

Later, Edith calls Lavinia at home and says she hears that Lavinia is having second thoughts about doing a joint concert with Dorina. She asks if it's possible that Lavinia is afraid to face Dorina. Edith assures Lavinia that she's not challenging the singer. She says that this time it is the public that's challenging her.

Lavinia predictably takes the bait. She tells Edith: "I am not afraid of anyone. Listen and listen carefully. I've seen a lot singers before me who ended up being nothing more than has-beens. I've seen many singers come after me but they cannot beat me. I am not scared. Tell the public they should watch out because they will see Lavinia Arguelles destroy Dorina Pineda."

The next day at Zoni's office, Jack and Dorina are shocked when they read the day's tabloids and see an article that says Dorina and Lavinia will face off at a joint concert. Jack remarks that the writer must be crazy!

Zossimo says this may come as a shock, but the reporter got the information straight from himself and from Larry... and that it's true.

Jack is concerned. He says he knows La Calma will just use this as a way to tell people that Dorina is just Lavinia's fan. They'll make sure that Dorina is the front act. Zossimo says they've thought it through and that in the end, it's not important who sings first... what's more important is who's the better singer.

Lavinia is at La Calma's office being interviewed by the press. She confirms that there will indeed be a joint concert, and that it's now official because Dorina finally agreed to do it.

The reporters latch on to the comment and ask if Dorina was afraid to accept the challenge. Lavinia makes a show of denying that she knows anything about Dorina's camp because she's the type to mind her own business. But she quickly reminds everyone that she's not just a singer, she's an acclaimed actress as well, and that she's now at a different level.

At Zoni's office, Dorina looks worried. Zossimo asks her if she's reluctant to accept the challenge... if she really thinks that Lavinia is the better singer. Dorina asks him if she really needs to go up against Lavinia in this way.

Nico gets up from behind his desk and walks over to her. He says yes, she needs to do this, because it's no longer just about singing. He says Lavinia and La Calma have constantly undermined her, attacked her, and trashed her reputation. She has to make a stand now otherwise Lavinia will continue to walk all over her for the rest of her life.

Dorina is quiet as she thinks things over. Finally she agrees to do the concert, saying that she started this battle with Lavinia, so she will do what it takes to finish it. Nico and Zossimo are quick to express their approval.
