Episode 1.2

Adora and her sister are debating whether or not to keep the baby. Adora shares her suspicion that the baby does not actually belong to Emilio, especially since he is a drug pusher. She says she has even picked out a name for the baby, Adorina Pineda.

She asks her sister to help her out with the birth certificate, since she knows someone from city hall. Her sister reminds her that paperwork is easy, but raising a child is not.

Rosa Mia is walking out of the church when she sees a sampaguita vendor with a baby in her arms.

Rosa Mia accosts the vendor, thinking that the baby is Emilia Rose, but she eventually realizes that the baby is not hers.

Rosa Mia visits Emilio in jail and once again blames him for the loss of their daughter. She asks him what she is to do with money without their daughter.

She removes her wedding ring and returns it to him in anger.

Despite his pleading, she departs, leaving him holding her wedding ring.

Adora is at home admiring Dorina in her crib when her sister, Miranda, asks whether Adora really plans to keep the baby. Adora says she knows what she is doing.

Miranda tells her she hopes the day never comes when someone knocks on their door to claim the baby, because she knows Adora would not be able to bear it.

As Miranda leaves the room, Adora picks up baby Dorina and realizes that the baby is running a fever. She calls Miranda and the two of them rush to the hospital with the baby.

At the hospital, the doctor says that Dorina has bronchitis and has to stay inside an oxygen tent to help her breathe. He gives her a prescription for the medicine. Adora asks Miranda if she has money, since she only has enough to pay the doctor and will not have enough to buy the medicine.

Miranda once again asks Adora to consider returning the baby, or perhaps bring the baby to DSWD. Adora resists the idea, saying she'll soon pay Miranda back. Miranda points out that Adora has lost her job because of the baby and will be unable to find a new one because she's busy with the baby. Adora insists she'll figure out how to handle the finances.

Rosa Mia continues with her singing career in nightclubs.

In the montage that follows, we see baby Dorina growing up with Adora's loving care.

Unfortunately, she still requires frequent hospital visits.

We also see Emilio still in jail, serving his time.

As her set ends, Rosa Mia thanks the appreciative audience and reveals that she had composed the song that she had just performed.

As the audience applauds, we see that she has an admirer in the audience, a man who is seated in the front row.

Despite her apparent success as a singer and composer, Rosa Mia remains heartbroken as she cries backstage after her set.

We see Rosa Mia signing a contract with Lauro Calma (the man who had admired her performance in the nightclub), as he congratulates her for becoming a member of the LaCalma Recording Company.

He introduces her to his young son, Larry. She thanks him and makes her excuses, saying she has another singing engagement to go to.

Lauro tells his son that Rosa Mia will be the one to save their recording company. Larry asks about their company, and Lauro says he'll explain everything to Larry when he has graduated and is at the helm of the company.

Lauro predicts Rosa Mia will have a long and successful career and that they have to take good care of her.

The scene shifts to Adora and Adorina singing along with Rosa Mia on the television.

Emilio, still in jail, is also watching her performance in the recreation area.

He stops another inmate from changing the channel, intent on watching his wife perform.

We also see two women watching Rosa Mia from the side of the stage. One of them is apparently a singer and the second lady is her personal assistant.

The PA admires Rosa Mia's performance, while the singer feels threatened by Rosa Mia and the response of the audience.

Miranda, Adora, and Adorina are home when a very pregnant Miranda appears to have cramps. Adora predicts that the baby will be a boy, and suggests that they name the baby Bencho.

Adorina is at a carinderia helping Adora with their food business. Miranda is also part of the business, helping to man their stall.

They greet an elderly lady as she walks past with a young boy.

Dorina asks about the boy, and Adora says she hears he is an orphan and is the grandson of the elderly lady.

iranda comes along and says she heard he is the nephew, not the grandson.

They resume their chores, but Dorina starts feeling ill and drops a tray. Adora rushes to her side to take care of her.

Dorina is resting in bed as Adora watches over her, while Miranda looks on. They worry about the expense of Dorina's frequent attacks, but Adora stresses that they should keep helping each other.

We learn that the father of Miranda's baby has abandoned them and the two women have been left to fend for themselves and the children. At Miranda's prompting, Adora promises to always take care of Bencho. She reminds Miranda that they should take care of each other.

At the hospital, Adora and Dorina are waiting when the doctor appears. She asks why the delivery is taking so long. The doctor says the baby is fine, but Miranda did not survive the birth.

The doctor tells Adora that Miranda had long had a tumor in her uterus, but had refused to let Adora know. The tumor could have been operated on, but the pregnancy would have been at risk, so Miranda left the tumor untreated, which led to her death.

[ Commercial break ]

Rosa Mia is at a press conference with Lauro Calma and the press congratulate her for her very successful concert. Rosa Mia shares that future plans include new shows, new concerts, a 10-city provincial tour, and hopefully a new album.

Another reporter asks her about her "Crying Diva" title, and she replies that the title was given to her by the press. They ask her who she remembers when she's crying, and Rosa Mia is unable to answer.

Lauro interrupts the proceedings and makes their excuses. Backstage, he tells her that no one should know her secret; that he has not even said anything to his secretary or to his son, Larry. He urges her to move on and forget her past, that perhaps her husband has also forgotten her. It seems she has not yet recovered from her loss.

Just then, young Larry enters the dressing room and is upset to see his father comforting Rosa Mia.

The landlady arrives to collect the rent that Adora owes her, apparently for three months already.

Outside, the neighborhood kid, Oman, approaches Dorina and introduces himself. He extends his condolences. Dorina angrily tells him to stop talking to her.

Oman tells her that she just needs to have a good cry, that this was what he experienced when he lost his own parents. Dorina tells him she refuses to cry, even as she starts crying uncontrollably.

Oman offers her his handkerchief, and she accepts it.

Inside the house, the landlady tells her she needs to figure out a way to make ends meet, because the situation cannot go on much longer.

Just then, Oman runs into the house to call Adora, because Dorina cannot breathe. At the hospital, the doctor reminds Adora that Dorina should not be allowed to become tired or to become too hot and sweaty. He gives her another prescription for Dorina's medication. She tells him that she only has P100 left, and he tells her that she should spend it on the medicines.

Dorina is upstairs in her home, watching the neighborhood kids play. Oman invites her to join them, but she says she can't since she has just recovered from her illness.

Adora tells her she can always play inside the house. Oman suddenly appears inside the house, and tells them he'd rather play with Dorina inside if she cannot play with the rest of the kids outside. The two kids settle down to enjoy a game of jackstones with Adora.

We see a montage of scenes where Dorina is pretending to be singing to a microphone as Oman dances beside her. It is obvious that the two kids have become good friends.

It is night once again, and Adora is about to prepare a bottle of milk for the baby when she realizes that she is all out of milk powder... that she has nothing left but water to feed the baby.

[ Commercial ]

A customer of the carinderia approaches Adora to ask if she has other dishes to sell, and Adora says that she doesn't have more because she couldn't afford to buy the ingredients.

Just then, Dorina runs up to her saying that baby Bencho is sick, and has a fever. Adora is visibly stressed, and she is almost in a daze as the doctor asks her if the baby has been fed nothing but water the whole day.

Sitting in church with baby Bencho, Adora asks God if He is punishing her for not returning Dorina to her father. Crying, she asks God to help her because she does not know what to do anymore.

Outside the church, Adora cradles baby Bencho as Dorina plays. In a montage of scenes, we see Adora continue doing her best to take care of Dorina and Bencho, but eventually she realizes she cannot take care of them anymore.

The next day, Adora brings Dorina and Bencho with her as Dorina pleads with Adora to let her help raise money by selling sampaguita flowers at the church. Adora refuses, saying that Dorina will only get sick. They arrive at the Hospicio de San Jose, an orphanage. We see Adora telling one of the nuns that she can no longer take care of the two children, that she worries that they will only come to harm if they are with her.

The nun tells her that it will be easy to find a home for Bencho, but that finding a home for a child of Dorina's age will be harder.

The nun urges Adora to spend some more time to think about her decision. Adora tells her to go ahead and start the papers, because it will be best for the children.

As she tries to leave the orphanage, Adora tells Dorina that she will be leaving for Cebu for a while, and that she will eventually return for them. Dorina cries and begs Adora not to leave her. She even promises Adora that she will no longer get sick.
