Episode 17.1

Dorina tells Rosamia that she wishes she had not met Rosamia at all. Rosamia puts on a brave front and says she knows Dorina is hurt by the situation, but she says that she has already made her decision.

Dorina asks one last question -- does Rosamia believe that Dorina is her missing daughter? Rosamia says that based on what Emilio and Adora are saying, yes, Dorina is her daughter.

Dorina is hurt and confused. She says she thought Rosamia wanted to be with her daughter, wanted her family to be together. Rosamia says that was true before, but that's no longer the case now.

She apologizes to Dorina and says that she does not need a daughter right now. Rosamia picks up her handbag and walks to the door. Just before leaving, she tells Dorina -- this may be hard for you to understand, but I do this for you. Rosamia leaves. Dorina wipes away her tears.

On the phone, Lavinia congratulates Oscar for a job well done and promises to give him a bonus. Rita brings food to the dining table, where Lavinia is seated, and asks her sister if she feels no pity at all for Dorina. Lavinia smiles and asks how can she feel pity when this is what she's wanted for such a long time -- the fall of her rival.

Rita asks her if she cannot see that what she's doing is wrong? Lavinia says Rita shouldn't complain... after all, this is good for her and Barbara too. When Lavinia's career picks up again, she'll have more projects and money will be rolling in again. They can finally pay for Barbara's treatments. Isn't that what Rita wants?

Dorina enters her dark bedroom and dejectedly sits on the bed. Thoughts of her conversation with Rosamia cross her mind. In her own bedroom, Rosamia is lying in bed crying as she recalls their conversation as well.

Dorina looks at all the presents that Rosamia left behind, presents that Rosamia had been saving for Emilia Rose. She sits on her own bed, hugging a pillow tightly, crying.

Emilio arrives at Rosamia's home and hugs Rosamia tightly as she cries in bed.

Kylie tries to convince Oman to visit Dorina again. He says he did try, but the security guards stopped him, thinking he's just a fan. Oman wonders how Dorina must be taking the news about her parents' identities.

Kylie holds his hand and assures him that she's right there for him. She even offers to battle the reporters, especially Oscar Dimayuga. Oman smiles at her.

Rosamia is now calmer. She sits up in bed next to Emilio and says all her past mistakes would be damaging to Dorina's career. She says this is the only way she knows to help their daughter.

Emilio tells her she should have explained everything to Dorina because their daughter will understand. Rosamia disagrees. She says in the short time she spent with Dorina, she has come to know their daughter very well. Dorina would never allow Rosamia to sacrifice herself in that way. Dorina would do everything she can to protect her parents, when in reality they as parents should be the one protecting their daughter. Emilio can only hug Rosamia.

Lavinia is on the set filming scenes from her indie movie. The director is pleased with her performance. Reporters flock around her as she moves to her standby area and ask her for her comments about the latest developments with Dorina.

Lavinia plays coy and says she'd rather not comment because she's the type to mind her own business, plus she has no secrets to hide, since she's completely open. After all, the true Lavinia is not "plastic"

Adora awakens from her nap in the hospital to find Minda reading the latest tabloid. From the bed, Adora cannot see the headline, which reads -- Dorina Pineda: Besieged by Controversy.

When Adora asks why she's frowning and asks to see the papers for possible news about Dorina's upcoming concert, Minda quickly says there's no news about Dorina in the tabloids -- that there's just talk of rising gas prices, which explains her frown. She sets aside the paper, out of Adora's reach.

At Zoni's office, Zossimo tells Nico that the major sponsors are still supportive, but one of the other sponsors is exercising the morality clause in their contract because Dorina no longer has a wholesome image. They intend to sue Dorina.

At Larry's office, Lavinia tells him that her last shooting day went well. Lavinia asks Larry to please never accept another indie film offer (conveniently forgetting she told him to get this role for her). Larry smiles and assures her that she'll only work on projects that she likes. She can pick and choose. They won't have to suffer through another small productions like this one.

Larry spoke with such confidence, prompting Lavinia to ask him if something has happened. Larry tells her that her former sponsors are coming back and that some producers have even called because they want her in their movies. Lavinia smiles and kisses him, and thanks him.

At Zoni's office, Nico shows Dorina the letter from the sponsor that intends to sue her. Dorina frantically asks him what she's supposed to do. Nico says it might be time for her to face the press and speak up and say what needs to be said.

Upset, Dorina says there's nothing to say. Emilio already left the night before. Rosamia denies being her mother. And Adora, the only one who can answer all her questions, is not reachable. Dorina cries uncontrollably as she says she doesn't want to talk to the press without talking to Adora first.

At the hospital room, Adora finishes her breakfast and casually asks Minda when they need to pay their bills at the hospital. When Minda is unsure, Adora asks Minda to check with the hospital's accounting to find out what their unpaid balance is.

As soon as Minda leaves the room, Adora asks the nurse to hand her the tabloid that Minda was reading earlier. She flips through the tabloid's inside pages before finally reaching the frontpage and the headlines. The cover story's subtitle reads: Daughter of Rosamia and an ex-convict.

Minda returns to the room and is dismayed to see the tabloid in Adora's hands. Adora glares at her for trying to conceal the truth. She tells Minda that she intends to go home because her daughter needs her. Minda tries to stop her but she is determined to return home, and orders Minda to call the nurse. Although she is in obvious pain, Adora tries to get out of bed.

The next day, Rosamia emerges from her bedroom at home. Almost by instinct, she reaches into her liquor cabinet and pulls out a bottle. As she uncorks it, she recalls the last time Dorina tried to stop her from drinking and the way she gave in to Dorina's request. With effort, she recorks the bottle and puts it away.

Eventually, she finds herself sitting at her piano, composing a new song as thoughts of the time she has spent with Dorina go through her head. She appears to be composing Bituing Walang Ningning.

Nico's lawyer reviews the letter from Dorina's irate sponsor and tells him that they have grounds for filing a lawsuit because they are invoking the morality clause. The news of Dorina being involved with three different men at the same time -- that's a violation of the clause. Nico assures her that it's not true. The lawyer says they'll have to prove that.

Nico acknowledges her statement, then says he has another case for her -- he wants to file a libel suit. He tells his lawyer that if they win the libel case, Dorina's name will be cleared.

At the LaCalma office, Oscar greets Lavinia and happily receives an envelope from her. He checks the contents and is pleased. He says he intends to use the money to go on vacation. Lavinia tells him he can't go on vacation yet because there's yet more work to be done. She assures him that he'll get another bonus for this additional work.

When Oscar asks what it is she needs done, she says that she wants all the writers and publishers to print nothing but negative articles about Dorina. She says that on her way back up to the top, she wants to meet Dorina as she's on her way down. And she'll take great pleasure in telling Dorina that only Lavinia deserves to be on top.

It is mealtime at the Pineda home. Bencho asks Dorina if she's not feeling well because she's not eating, and she knows that Dorina has been crying for several nights already. She wants to know what's happening because she wants to help.

Just then, the door opens. Adora and Minda enter the house. Bencho runs to hug Adora. Dorina merely stays standing next to the dining table. Although she is happy to see her mother, she is still unhappy about the way Adora has concealed the truth from her.

Minda immediately invites Bencho to help her put away their things, taking the child out of the living room.

Finally alone, Dorina and Adora look at each other for a moment. Adora finally asks Dorina if she has no plans to greet her. Dorina, ever the respectful daughter, walks over to Adora and kisses her mother on the cheek, and even greets her with a "Welcome back."

Dorina also remarks that Adora looks pale and that she lost weight. Dorina turns away, prompting Adora to quickly ask if she is angry with her. Unable to stop herself from crying, Dorina turns to face Adora and asks why Adora hid the truth from her. She reminds Adora of their promise not to conceal anything from each other.

Adora is now also crying. She explains that it was Emilio's request, and he is, after all, Dorina's father. They just didn't want to hurt her. Dorina angrily says that by hiding the truth, they only managed to hurt her in the end. She's no longer a child, there's no need to protect her in this way.

Adora asks for forgiveness, saying she only wanted to protect Dorina. She hugs Dorina tightly, saying sorry over and over again. In the face of such sincere apologies, Dorina cannot stay angry for long. She eventually hugs Adora back.

While still hugging Dorina, Adora suddenly loses consciousness. Dorina tries to hold onto Adora but she's not strong enough, and both she and Adora fall to the floor. Dorina immediately cries out for Minda. Minda and Bencho rush into the room to find Adora on the floor and Dorina beside her crying.
