Episode 17.4

Rosamia is sitting alone on a couch at her home, staring off into space, remembering past conversations with Emilio about Dorina's identity.

At the Arguelles home, Lavinia happily reads the front pages of tabloids. The headlines proclaim her as the next box office queen, and highlight the return of the Sensational Star. As Rita walks past her with a laundry basket, she shows Rita the tabloids and says Dorina is no match for her now.

Rita does not acknowledge the tabloids. Instead, she asks Lavinia to grant her a favor. Lavinia, without waiting to hear the request, immediately says she has no money. Rita tells her she's not interested in money. She asks her sister to speak to their mother, because Barbara is depressed.

When Lavinia hesitates, Rita pleads with her. Lavinia asks Rita what she and Barbara would have to discuss. Rita tells her that Barbara needs to hear that Lavinia has forgiven her. She tells Lavinia that only she can pull Barbara out of her depression. Rita says that if Barbara remains depressed and has another attack, she may never recover.

Gary and Dorina are once again outside Rosamia's house, knocking on the door and not getting a response. Gary speculates that Rosamia may have moved. Dorina says Rosamia wouldn't do that without at least informing Emilio. Gary looks at the gate, then tells Dorina he'll figure out a way to get them into the house.

Oman tries to walk past the security guard in front of Dorina's subdivision, but the guard stops him and demands to know who he is because only people whose names are included on the guest list can enter. Oman gives his full name. After checking the list, the guard says his name is not there, and refuses to let him pass.

Oman asks the guard to try calling Dorina, saying he's sure Dorina will tell the guards to let him in. The guard says Dorina and Adora are not home. Oman then says he also knows Nico and tells the guard that he can check with him too. The guard reveals that it was Nico who made the guest list. He asks Oman to leave.

Oman refuses to leave, saying that he's on a public street and that it's his right to stay there and wait until Dorina or Adora return home.

Gary and Dorina have found a way into Rosamia's home. They climb up the stairs to find the living room empty and the furniture covered by sheets. Dorina is dejected. Crying, she asks out loud why her mother has left her again. She wonders if there is something wrong with her.

Just then, Emilio comes running up the stairs and is about to ask Dorina if she has spoken to Rosamia, when he realizes that Dorina is crying. Dorina tells him that Rosamia has left them. Emilio looks around the deserted living room and realizes that it's true. He promises Dorina that he will look for Rosamia, because he will not accept that Rosamia is gone.

As Emilio and Dorina talk, Gary wanders around the deserted house and finds a CD on top of one of the sheet-covered items of furniture. He hands the CD, which is labeled "To Dorina" to her, saying Rosamia must have left something for her.

Dorina and Emilio go see Oman. Emilio talks to the neighbors and returns to the car, where Dorina is waiting, to tell her that Oman is apparently still out. Emilio says they can wait for him, but Dorina says they should just go, because Oman may be late again in coming home.

Minda is walking down the street in front of Dorina's subdivision when she sees Oman waiting at the entrance. She asks him what he's doing there. Oman tells her that his name is not on the guest list so the guards won't let her in. Minda says Dorina has been so busy lately taking care of Adora that she's probably not even aware that there's such a list. Oman is shocked to learn that Adora is ill and immediately asks what's wrong with her.

Later, Oman and Dorina finally see each other and Oman is upset. With angry tears rolling down his face, he tells Dorina that he feels like he's been forgotten. He says that in the past, Dorina would be the first to look for him whenever she has a problem. And now, when she is beset with the worst possible intrigues, she has not even gone to see him.

Dorina explains that she did try to go see Oman, but that he wasn't home whenever she went to him. Oman asks if that's why he's no longer on her guest list? Dorina says she doesn't know what list he is talking about.

When Oman asks her what's become of their friendship, Dorina says that Oman is now busy with his studies, while she is likewise busy working.

Oman says there was a time when they used to know everything that was happening in each other's lives. Now he has to find out what's going on with her by reading the tabloids. He adds that he used to be at her side when she was working hard to reach her dreams. Now it's as if they are nothing to each other.

Dorina quietly says that perhaps this is for the best, because he now has a life of his own. He doesn't need to follow her around anymore because he now has his own road, his own dreams, his own future. She tells him that Kylie is now in his life, and that Kylie wants a future with him. She tells him not to be afraid to confess his feelings for Kylie because she is sure that Kylie will accept him.

Oman then asks her -- what about us? Dorina tells him that they'll always be friends; that will not change. She turns and leaves before Oman can say more.

Inside the rehearsal room, Dorina tells Gary that it's just as well that Oman's life has direction now. He's studying, he's not wasting his time on her. Gary tells Dorina that Oman stays with her because he loves her.

Dorina says that was in the past. Things have changed. Kylie is the one that Oman wants now. Gary asks her if that's why she was crying earlier. Dorina says no, that's not it -- she explains that she feels like she's lost a friend, even though she knows that she and Oman will remain friends even if he has a girlfriend. As Gary silently looks at her, Dorina adds that she will focus on looking for Rosamia.

Later that night, Dorina is in her bedroom, looking at the CD that Rosamia has left behind for her. She places it into the cd player and listens.

In the montage of scenes that follow, Dorina searches for Rosamia, visiting one club after another hoping to find her mother performing on stage. In the meantime, Emilio wanders the streets that he and Rosamia used to visit, hoping in vain to catch a glimpse of his missing wife.

Now in her new home, Rosamia sits alone crying in the dark, holding the drawing that Emilio had given her for her birthday close to her chest. It is the drawing of Rosamia holding baby Emilia Rose.

At the Arguelles home, Lavinia finally enters Barbara's bedroom to see her mother. She tells Barbara that Rita wants them to talk to each other. Almost rudely, Lavinia tells Barbara that she has nothing to say to her. She asks if Barbara wants to say anything.

Barbara, with effort, raises her hand to Lavinia, and calls her "anak" but Lavinia does not move closer to her mother. Instead, Lavinia asks Barbara what she wants. Before Barbara can answer, Lavinia asks her if it's money she wants. She pulls out some cash from her wallet and offers it to Barbara, saying she's now willing to pay for Barbara;s therapy sessions.

With effort, Barbara says it's not Lavinia's money that she needs. Lavinia misunderstands and angrily says that Barbara is never content with whatever she's giving her. But then, it shouldn't be surprising anymore because when has Barbara ever been happy with Lavinia?

Lavinia continues -- right from the start, everything I've done has been for naught. I've done everything you've ever ordered me to do, suffered through your criticism and all the times that you've hurt me. I tried to rationalize it away by convincing myself that one day you will see everything I've done to try to make you happy. I've tried to believe that the day will come when you will tell me that you love me.

Barbara has no reply. Lavinia continues -- But it's okay now even if you never say it. I've already proven to myself that I can do everything on my own, that I no longer need you (Barbara). I've reclaimed my career without your help! So everything you've been saying all this time is not true -- I'm not worthless!

Barbara with effort, finally speaks. She asks for Lavinia's forgiveness. She pleads over and over for Lavinia's forgiveness, holding tightly to Lavinia hand.

Lavinia is taken aback, but in her anger she says that regardless of what Barbara tries to do or say, she will never befriend Barbara again. Lavinia manages to free her hand from Barbara's grip and runs out of the bedroom, laving Barbara struggling in her chair, crying out Lavinia's name.

Lavinia enters the foyer just when Rita is coming down the stairs. Rita asks her if she has spoken to Barbara. Before they can answer, they hear a loud crash from Barbara's room,

Rita runs to the bedroom and opens the door to find Barbara lying still on the floor, the wheelchair toppled over on its side. She rushes to Barbara just as Lavinia appears at the bedroom doorway. Rita frantically asks Lavinia to call the doctor, and has to repeat herself because Lavinia is still in shock. Lavinia runs back out of the bedroom.

Later, Larry and Lavinia are walking together in the hospital corridor. He asks her when she will be ready to return to work because there are projects waiting for her, and he has received calls from advertisers who want to get her as an endorser. Smiling, Larry says Dorina is out of the game and Lavinia is back in. Lavinia, smiling, says she's ready to work whenever he wants.

Larry then asks about Barbara's condition. Lavinia says that the doctor said it was a mild attack, and that Barbara is free to go home that day. She adds that the doctor also warned that Barbara cannot handle any more stress, because if she suffers another attack it will be her last.

Dorina and the band are at rehearsals when Chris and Jay arrive. Gary coldly says that if they're here to rejoin the band, it's too late. Chris says that's not why they've come. He explains that they've heard about the issues surrounding Dorina. Chris assures them that they have nothing to do with the intrigues. Jay adds that they know Dorina and know that she's not the type to do the things that the tabloids are accusing her of.

After delivering their message, Chris and Jay turn to leave, but Gary stops them and says that he has a friend who's looking for singers and musicians. He says that if they're no longer happy being at La Calma, they should call his friend. He gives them the number. Jay and Chris thank him. After they leave, Gary turns to find Dorina smiling at him.

Lavinia enters the hospital room with papers in her hand to find Rita packing, and Barbara sitting in a wheelchair.

She tells them that the hospital bill has been paid and that she has the discharge papers.

Quietly, Rita tells her that they do not intend to return home with her. Instead, they will be renting a small apartment elsewhere. Angrily, Rita says they can't stay with Lavinia anymore because she will just throw in their faces all the mistakes that they've made in the past. If Lavinia keeps arguing with Barbara, their mother will not ever recover.

As Rita wheels Barbara out of the bedroom, Barbara reaches for Lavinia's hand and holds it to her cheek. Lavinia looks at her for a moment, but there's nothing more to say. Barbara lets go of Lavinia's hand, and Rita wheels her out of the hospital room.
