Episode 12.4

Oman and Lolo are playing chess outside the church, when Oman asks Lolo how he can enroll in school, because he would like to take up business management. Lolo advises him to first take the entrance exam at his school of choice, and then if he passes, he can enroll. Oman is happy to hear that it's that simple. Lolo says he has to pass the exam first.

Oman asks if Lolo thinks he can finish the course in a year, and is shocked when Lolo says it's a 4 year course. Lolo advises him to take up a vocational school or a night course instead, because scholarships are available. He promises to ask his contacts if they can help.

Dorina and Emilio are outside Rosamia's house but no one is answering their knocks on the gate. Dorina notices the gate is not locked. Emilio suggests that they go in to find out what's wrong. They find Rosamia passed out on the couch with liquor bottles on the living room table.

Dorina tells Emilio she'll take care of Rosamia, and he reluctantly goes back down the stairs. Unknown to Dorina, Emilio stops half way down and listens. Dorina awakens Rosamia, and when Rosamia asks what she's doing there, Dorina reminds her that she's scheduled to have voice lessons.

Rosamia says she's not feeling well and asks that Dorina return tomorrow. Dorina asks if she's not feeling well because she has a hangover. She reminds Rosamia of her promise to stop drinking. Put on the defensive, Rosamia angrily asks Dorina what right she has to lecture her, after all, Dorina is not her relative, not her daughter. Emilio is visibly disturbed what he hears.

Dorina asks Rosamia to forgive her if she's interfering, but she she can't just be quiet and watch Rosamia destroy her life. Rosamia cries and asks her to just let her be, because she's useless anyway. Dorina assures her that Rosamia is important to so many people, not just to Dorina, but even to other people, like Emilio.

Rosamia once again talks about how much she hates Emilio, that seeing him reminds her of what she has lost. Emilio is heartbroken as he listens to her. Dorina says Emilio only wants to fix things between them. Rosamia says as long as she has not found her daughter, she cannot bring herself to see Emilio, much less forgive him.

Lavinia hands checks to Rita at the dinner table, saying that the money is for paying bills and for grocery shopping. Rita says that Barbara has not left her room since the night before, and suggests to Lavinia that she go see Barbara. Lavinia considers the idea for a moment, but eventually says Barbara will come out on her own in due time, when she's hungry.

Dorina manages to catch Oman just as he is arriving at his dorm room. Oman asks what she's doing there. Dorina says she's been waiting for him because he's so difficult to find lately. Oman says he's working on something. Dorina asks him what he's being so secretive about. Oman asks why she has to know. Dorina sits down beside him and asks him what's wrong.

Later, Lavinia goes to Barbara's bedroom door intending to talk to her mother. But at the last minute, she hesitates. Inside the bedroom, Barbara sees a shadow at the bottom of her door and waits expectantly. Lavinia changes and her mind and leaves, just as Barbara climbs out of bed to open her bedroom door. By the time she opens the door, Lavinia is gone.

Dorina tells Oman she just wants their friendship back to the way it was. Oman asks if she wants to pretend that he never said anything about his feelings for her. He says he doesn't regret telling her how he feels, and he doesn't want her to just brush it aside. She says she's not, she just doesn't want to lose his friendship, because she won't be able to accept it. Oman tells her he's still her friend, but that he won't have as much time to spend with her, since he's going back to school.

Dorina is happy to hear this and asks what prompted his decision. He says he's going back to school so that she won't be ashamed of him. So her friends won't look down at him. Exasperated, she tells once again that she hasn't changed... that she still eats rice and drinks water just like he does. He says things are different now, even if she doesn't realize it. Her star shines so much more brightly now, to the point that it's blinding.

She tells him what he says isn't true. That they're still best friends. She's still Dorina, and he's still Oman, and that hasn't changed.

Oman tells her she's still hard-headed and gets up. She stops him and says she needs her best friend tomorrow at the awards night. He says he'll try to be there, but he can't promise.

Larry is on the phone assuring the person he's speaking to that P300,000 will be deposited in the account this afternoon, in exchange for Lavinia being the winner tonight. When he gets off the phone, he assures Lavinia that the award is in the bag. Lavinia thanks him. She says she wants to have a victory party at the swankiest restaurant in town, and that she wants everybody to be there in her moment of triumph.

Later that evening, Lavinia is dressed beautifully in an evening gown waiting in the living room. She calls for Rita, saying that Larry has arrived. Rita comes out and the two sisters smile in anticipation of the evening ahead. When Lavinia asks if Barbara is ready, Rita tells her that Barbara will not be joining them. Lavinia takes the news in stride and they leave for the awards night.

At the awards venue, Lavinia is shown to her table, but she says it's too far from the stage. She walks ahead to one of the tables in front until she sees a table that's reserved for Dorina Pineda. She takes the reserved sign off the table and tells the usher that she wants to sit at this table. The usher is unable to stop her. Larry and Libby sit at the same table with her.

Just then, Dorina arrives to the applause of everyone in the room. Adora, Bencho, Nico, Zossimo, and Gary sit with her. An usher leads her to one of the tables in front, and seats her at a table beside Lavinia's.

Oman tries to enter the ballroom but he is blocked by security when he has no invitation to show. He tells the guard that he doesn't have an invitation but he can ask Dorina to verify his identity. The guard says people with invitations can go sit in the bleachers with the fans.

Oman climbs up the stairs to the bleachers just as they are reading out the nominees for the Best New Female Artist.

Down at the ballroom, Dorina looks for Oman just before the winner is announced, and is disappointed when she doesn't see him. Rosamia and Emilio are watching the proceedings on their respective TV sets, just as the presenter announces that the Best New Female Artist award goes to Dorina Pineda! Rosamia and Emilio cheer as Dorina goes up on stage to claim her award. By now, Oman is up in the bleachers with the rest of the fans, cheering.

Dorina is all smiles as she thanks God, her supportive friends Oman, Gary, and her bandmates. She thanks Zossimo, as well as her mentors Nico and Rosamia.

Larry tells Lavinia it's expected that Dorina will win this one. Lavinia brushes it aside and says that it's not an important category anyway. It's the Artist of the Year award that matters and she's sure it's hers.

At home, Barbara watches with baited breath as the nominees for the Artist of the Year award are announced. Lavinia asks Libby for the list of people she should thank. Lavinia is so focused on her thank you speech, and so sure that she's going to win that she stands up and doesn't even notice when Dorina is announced as the winner. Larry has to get up and stop her before she realizes that Dorina has won the award. Barbara cannot help but smile as she watches the events unfold on TV.

The two rival camps stare at each other across the ballroom for a moment, until the presenter calls out Dorina's name again, prompting Dorina to go up on stage.

In her speech, Dorina thanks God and her thanks her idol Lavinia Arguelles, she says it's because of her that she became a singer and that she's her inspiration. Lavinia is unable to take this final insult and she walks out of the ballroom. Larry, Libby and Rita have no choice but to follow her out.

After the awards ceremony, Dorina and her friends are gathered together for photos. After the photographers have left, Dorina asks Adora if she has seen Oman. She says Oman only said he would try, but that she's sure that he's going to come. She asks for their help to look for him.

Oman arrives just as Nico approaches Dorina and hugs her and says he's so proud of her. He misinterprets what he sees, and leaves.

Lavinia and her entourage arrive at the venue of her victory party and the restaurant is completely empty. In a fit of rage, she tears down banners, knocks down food trays, and topples floral arrangements.

Her anger finally spent, Lavinia starts to cry and falls to her knees in the center of the dance floor. Rita and Larry rush to her side to comfort her as Libby asks everyone else to leave. Larry hugs Lavinia as Libby and Rita finally leave the ballroom.

Back at the awards venue, Nico tells Dorina and her family that they have to celebrate and insists that they all meet at the restaurant he has chosen and that he'll take care of everything.

Emilio rushes out to meet them and eager congratulates Dorina. In his excitement, he calls her anak, much to Adora's distress.
