Episode 17.3

Gary drives Dorina home from the hospital. He reminds Dorina of the doctor's positive outlook, and tries to assure her that Adora will survive her cancer. He reminds her that he himself is a cancer survivor. Gary tells her that Adora is not the type who will give up, so she will be able to fight the disease. Dorina agrees.

At the hospital the next day, Minda leaves the hospital room to pay the bills, leaving Dorina and Adora alone together. Dorina notices that Adora feels queasy and worries. Adora assures her that it's a normal reaction to the treatment.

Adora insists on going home every night; she refuses to stay confined at the hospital. Dorina asks Adora what they will tell Bencho when they get home. Adora says they'll tell her the truth.

Later at the Pineda home, Adora is already in bed and Bencho is sitting next to her crying at the news that Adora is ill. When she asks if Adora has the same disease that claimed the life of her biological mother, Adora says yes, but she says that she's a fighter and that they'll beat the disease.

Bencho hugs Adora tightly and asks Adora not to leave her because she doesn't want to lose the only mother she has. Bencho says she'll pray every night for Adora. Dorina says she too will pray.

At the Arguelles home, Barbara is alone in her bedroom, struggling to sit up in bed. She has not yet recovered completely from her stroke, her left side remains quite weak.

After struggling unsuccessfully to sit up, she finds herself praying -- I know I have no right to come to you, God, because I am not a good person. But please hear my prayer. Please forgive me for the sins I've committed against my children, against the people around me, and against You. In my desire to become rich, I have forgotten you. You are my only hope now. Help me. Please let this not be the way things end for me.

In the Pineda home, Bencho has finally fallen asleep next to Adora, exhausted from crying. Adora quietly tells Dorina that they need to talk about Emilio and Rosamia. Dorina asks Adora if it's true that they are her parents. Adora asks her what her heart says, and Dorina says she believes that they are. She says not so long ago she had prayed to be reunited with her parents, and now God has provided a way. She says she cannot believe that God has brought them all together.

Adora agrees and shares that she used to be happy being with Dorina and Bencho, that her life was complete. But Emilio found her and she could not keep him away from his own daughter.

Dorina says this explains why Adora and Emilio were frequently talking in private. Adora says yes, and that they were just waiting for the right time to tell her. She said Emilio was worried about the effect the truth would have on her career.

Dorina says it's just a career. She says she would easily and gladly give it up for Adora, for her parents, for her family. They hug tightly.

The next day, Dorina visits Emilio. Emilio explains to Dorina that he stayed away from her the past few days because he wanted to give Dorina time to think through all the recent revelations. Emilio apologizes for hurting her. He says he can't blame Dorina if she's angry. But he assures her that he's still the same man she knew, still the same Emilio that she used to talk to, used to get advice from, the shoulder she used to cry on. He assures her that he is still the same friend she had before.

Quietly, Dorina says she doesn't see Emilio as a friend. As Emilio tries to conceal his dismay at her words, Dorina adds that she sees Emilio as her father. She calls him "Daddy" and they hug.

In Barbara's bedroom, Rita helps Barbara through physical therapy exercises to strengthen her left leg. After a few repetitions, Barbara tells Rita she should just rest since the therapist will be coming to continue her sessions.

Rita doesn't answer and repeats the leg exercises. Barbara stops her and asks whether or not the therapist is coming. Rita finally admits that they've run out of money and cannot pay for more treatements. At this news, Barbara cannot stop tears from rolling down her cheek.

Dorina tells Emilio that she has not had a chance to talk to Rosamia. Emilio assures her that Rosamia loves her dearly. Dorina asks him why Rosamia chose to deny that Dorina is her daughter. Emilio explains that Rosamia did it out of love for Dorina. He says it may not seem like she loves Dorina but she does. He encourages her to talk to her mother.

As Dorina leaves Emilio's home, Gary asks her if she's alright. Dorina says yes and shares the good news that Emilio will be returning to the Pineda home. Gary is pleased.

He asks her if she would like to go to their rehearsals now. Dorina says yes; she wants to get back to her old routine as quickly as possible, and that Jack is probably waiting for them already. However, she tells Gary that she'd like to visit one more place if it's alright with him.

Dorina knocks on the gate of Rosamia's home and calls for Rosamia. There is no answer. Gary offers to wait there with her until Rosamia appears, but Dorina says they can't stay longer because Jack is waiting. She wonders out loud if it is just a waste of time for her to come, maybe Rosamia really doesn't want to be with her. Unknown to Dorina, Rosamia is upstairs crying as she stands next to the window, hiding from sight.

Dorina finally turns away and gets into Gary's van. They drive away. Rosamia finally allows herself to sob.

Later that evening, Lavinia comes down the stairs all dressed up and ready to leave. Rita pushes Barbara out on her wheelchair to the foyer. Barbara calls out to Lavinia and wishes her luck on her movie premiere. Lavinia looks at her but says nothing before leaving the house.

Outside, Larry is waiting to escort Lavinia to the premiere. Lavinia experiences a moment of doubt and says to Larry that it may be better if they don't go -- what if the movie is a flop? Larry assures her he won't let that happen, that he'll take care of her. They leave together.

At the premiere, Lavinia gets the red carpet treatment as she enters the theatre with Larry and the movie director behind her. She is besieged by well-wishers and autograph seekers.

Inside, the crowd stands and applauds her as she enters the venue with a large bouquet of flowers in her arms. They all sit down to watch the screening. As the movie starts, Lavinia is still worried.

Backstage at the band's next performance, Jack and Gary peer out from behind the curtains and notice that there are only a few people in the audience. Jack remarks that their ticket sales have been affected by the negative publicity. He says to Gary that it may be better if they do not push through with the show.

Dorina overhears and says they have to go on because the people who are out in the audience now are those who came even when her name has been damaged by the publicity. These are the people who are loyal to them. She says they will still perform even if there's just one single person out there in the audience.

At the end of the screening of Lavinia's new movie, the crowd applauds and gives Lavinia a standing ovation. They cheer and chant her name as she stands from her seat. Her movie premiere is a success.

At the band's venue, Zossimo tells Dorina that the low audience count is a temporary thing. Once the negative publicity passes, they'll get their audience back.

Just then, a reporter comes to greet Dorina and says it's good that she's back to singing again. It is Edith, the same reporter who rebuffed Oscar's attempt at bribery in an earlier episode. Edith advises Dorina has to speak up and defend herself against Oscar's intrigues. She asks Zossimo what his plan is for dealing with these attacks on Dorina's character.

Zossimo exchanges looks with Dorina, then tells Edith that Dorina is not quite ready to speak up yet. Dorina interrupts at that point and says she is now ready to talk. Edith is pleased to hear this, and Zossimo agrees to schedule an interview with Edith.

A doctor makes a housecall to check on Barbara. He asks her if she's able to eat, and Rita responds, saying that Barbara can already taste salty food. Rita also says that Barbara can now move her left leg as well. The doctor says this is good news and advises her to continue exercising and try walking so she becomes less dependent on the wheelchair.

The doctor then pulls Rita aside and asks her what Barbara's disposition has been like. Rita worriedly says that Barbara's been depressed the past few days. The doctor tells her it's critical that Rita help Barbara get over whatever it is that's depressing her, because a positive outlook is critical to her recovery.

At the Pineda home, Edith and her crew have set up equipment to record her interview with Dorina. Zossimo, Nico, and Gary are standing behind the cameras, keeping a watchful eye on the proceedings.

Edith begins the interview by asking Dorina about the news that she has three boyfriends at the same time. Dorina confirms that the three men are her friends, but she denies that any of them are her boyfriend, that they are her friends. Edith says that the "we're just friends" line is often used by showbiz personalities. Dorina says that may be the case, but she assures Edith that while the three men in question are all important to her, they are no more than friends.

Edith then moves on to the next topic, remarking that even before that first issue died down, another new intrigue came her way. She asks Dorina about her alleged parents, Rosamia and Emilio.

Dorina explains that she did not speak up about this issue because she was also shocked by the news. She was confused at that time and she needed to talk to the people involved to find out what's going on. But now she's prepared to respond. She says -- it's true that I am the the daughter of Emilio and Rosamia Suarez. She adds that she wants to respond to Oscar's insinuation that she is mistreating her father. She explains that Emilio was already employed as her driver before she learned the truth about his identity.

Edith asks if it's true that Emilio was in jail for 17 years. Dorina says yes that it's true but she adds that she believes her father when he says he was innocent of the crime of which he was accused.

Edith then steers the interview to Dorina's mother, Rosamia. She asks Dorina why Rosamia came out and told reporters that Dorina is not her daughter. Dorina says she does not know. She says she also tries not to be too hurt by the situation. She adds that even before she learned the truth about her parents, she had already grown to love Emilio and Rosamia. And even if her own mother were to deny her, Dorina says she will always be proud of Rosamia because she is a good person and a gifted singer.

Edith asks Dorina for a final message to the public. Facing the camera, Dorina thanks those who supported her from the beginning and people who continue to support her up to now. She says the person you see before you is the real Dorina Pineda. If you cannot understand my explanation, I can't do anything about it. I want to thank you for all the opportunities you gave me. Because of you, my dreams to be a singer came true...

At this point, Dorina cries and tries to control her tears but she finally sobs uncontrollably. Gary steps forward and tries to comfort her.

After a moment, Dorina finally regains control and resumes speaking to the camera. She says -- I am not afraid if my career comes to an end tomorrow. Because at least even for a short time, I was able to enjoy my time with you (fans). And to my true mother, if you are watching now, I do love you.
