DID you know that when Sharon Cuneta shot the Viva Films movie Bituing Walang Ningning,kasalukuyan niyang ipinagbubuntis si KC (now 22, at anak niya sa aktor na si Gabby Concepcion)?
The film, adapted from a komiks novel by Nerissa Cabral, was a certified blockbuster.
Kuwento ito ng isang tagahangang mas naging sikat sa idolo nang mag-decide na sundan ang mga bakas nito.
Ang isang famous line uttered by Cherie Gil sa pelikula na palasak ngayon, lalo na sa mga bading, goes this way: “You’re nothing but a second rate, trying hard copycat!”
Angelika dela Cruz utters the same line in her role as Lavinia Arguelles (originally portrayed by Cherie) sa ngayo’y TV version ng Bituing Walang Ningning.
Yes, Bituin is now a teleserye. And playing the role of Dorina (Sharon’s in the film version) is Sarah Geronimo.
Sarah is just turning 18, kaya ’di pa siya ipinanganganak nang ipalabas ang nabanggit na pelikula sa mga sinehan.
“Ako naman ho, three years old lang siguro that time,” ani Angelika. “Pero pinanood po sa amin ang pelikula. Kaya may ideya kami ni Sarah kung paano ginampanan ni Ms. Cherie at ni Ate Shawie ang kani-kanilang roles sa movie.
“Ganunpaman, we made sure that we’re not copycats of the two. After all, mahirap din naman silang pantayan.”
ABS-CBN wants to make sure that Bituing… will not just turn out to be a popular teleserye, they expect it to be an outstanding one as well. Thus, sa casting pa lang, they chose not just the biggest but the brightest stars in the industry.
‘Must,’ especially for the three lead stars ng teleserye, ang pagiging higante ng mga ito sa pagkanta… no wonder, aside from Angelika (who can sing) and Sarah, Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla was assigned the role of Sarah’s mom.
“My role here is one of the most challenging I’ve portrayed so far,” sabi ni Zsa Zsa. “I became popular nang bumagsak ang career at naging alcoholic.”
Others in the cast are Ai-Ai delas Alas, Amy Austria, Tonton Gutierrez, John Prats, Carlo Aquino, Mico Palanca, Jennie Ilustre, Dominic Ochoa and Ryan Agoncillo.
Introducing are Search for the Star in a Million finalist Jay Parillo and Chris Cayzer.
Directors are Eric Salud and Jerome Pobocan.

At the Bituing… presscon (na parang ‘pugon’ sa init), tinanong si Ms. Cabral why she opted to call her novel Bituing Walang Ningning samantalang bawat bituin, ’di nga ba, ay palaging may ningning?
Sabi niya, prototype ng mga tagahanga si Dorina. Through her novel, gusto niya raw ipakita sa mga tagahangang tao rin lang ang mga artistang hinahangaan.
Kaya may mga kapintasan ding itinatago ang mga ito sa publiko.
Bituing… is not the first komiks serial which ABS-CBN has transformed into a teleserye. Nand’yan din ang Panday, based sa isang komiks novel ni Carlo J. Caparas, starring Jericho Rosales.
